Xbox one Audio issue - optical cable no longer playing 5.1 surround sound

    Hello all,

I am working through an audio issue with my Xbox one and my 5.1 audio sound system. I have the sound system hooked up to the Xbox with an audio optical cable, with an HDMI running from the Xbox to the Samsung TV. The surround sound worked properly previous
to the Xbox update. After the update, now the sound is coming out in a stereo form. I have the audio setting set to this: settings>General>Volume & Audio output>speaker set up; (HDMI Audio = stereo uncompressed) (Optical Audio = Bitstream out) (Bitstream
format = Dolby Digital). the sound still comes through my audio system in a stereo format even when I turn the HDMI Audio to off. In the past, this has not been an issue because the optical cable bypasses the TV and runs directly to the sound system receiver.

On a side note, I am not sure why I cannot set the HDMI audio setting to 5.1 uncompressed. this may be a side issue that Xbox has neglected.

Can someone offer a workable solution or explanation for the change? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

    Help Needed!

I have the same issue with my Xbox. If it is connected via HDMI the 5.1 sound will rarely work going to my surround sound receiver regardless of what the settings are in the Xbox but if I connect it using an optical audio cable the 5.1 works without fail.

The Xbox is an Arcade edition.

Xbox One no surround sound on my home theater

First, try going to Settings > Display and Sound > In the middle, change the "HDMI Audio" setting to '5.1 uncompressed'.

If you still can't get 5.1 audio to your sound system, try buying an optical audio cable and plug that from the back of your xbox one into your sound system and change the settings on your sound system to use the 'Optical In' or a setting that chooses that
input. Don't forget to change the settings like the one above, but under "Optical Audio" choose "Bitstream Out" and change "Bitstream Format" to "DTS Digital Surround." The optical audio port is right between the HDMI in and out ports.

EA audio problems - does BF3 have in-game volume control?

After some heavy google research i think I've found a solution but would be interested on anyones thoughts.

So at the moment my audio setup is Xbox > TV > Surround Sound, but it appears this may cause the issue because most TV's dont output 5.1 surround sound so if I were to use optical audio to go xbox > surround sound, this may fix the issue...

    5.1 setup HDMI not working...

So my optical from xbox to receiver and selecting DTS digital is going to give me 5.1 surround?

It def sounds really good when watching netflix.. but ive always thought uncompressed 5.1 under the hdmi audio setting on the xbox would give me better surround sound?

Not getting a digital signal to my soundbar from XB1.

I have the same sound bar. If you hook the sound bar up straight to the xbox one with a digital optical audio cable and not your tv the DTS on the sound bar will work. Works with games, blu-rays and my comcast cable hd channels that support 5.1. The DTS
light on the vizio sound bar Wil light up when you turn on it on and when you change input on the sound bar and shortly turn off indicting it's working. These are my settings, HDMI audio off. Optical audio DTS Digital Surround. And under tv & one guide settings,
click troublshooting, I have surround sound (beta) checked. Only thing I don't know if DTS or Dolby digital is better. With the march update I will have the option to choose DTS or Dolby digital that the vizio 5.1 sound bar does support.
