I purchase games at Walt-Mart for my daughter and as soon as we put a disk in the game needs a 42 GB update? Does the blue ray disk even hold much more than that? How can the Xbox One constantly need updates that large. She gets excited to play a game only
to find out that the game will need to be left updating overnight just for her to be able to play it, and that's if the Xbox One doesn't turn itself off through the night stopping the update, which it will. After getting the
[Mod Removed - Inappropriate] update the problem doesn't get much better, the Xbox Ono still constantly needs to be downloading 10+ GB updates. As if not being able to play the games wasn't bad enough, at this rate the HDD will be taken up
after trying two or three updates on maybe four or five games. I love the Xbox 360, so far the Xbox One has been a paper weight when not used to play DVDs. Are we doing something wrong? Thanks.

    :)

You're not doing anything wrong. Games these days are constantly updated with new levels, features, bug fixes, better graphics etc, etc. It just how games are these days. If you haven't already, then I would suggest putting the Xbox in instant on mode, and
turn on the option to make sure games and console are always upto date. Then during the night the console will download any updates needed, which will stop you having to update mostly during the day.

As for the hard drive being taken up with more space. The updates only download what is needed, and will overwrite older files.

Frequent updates are common these days. The initial update for a game can be quite large depending on how long the game has been released because it is downloading all of the updates since the game launched basically.

You may want to check the settings of your console to have it always keep the games and apps up to date and have the console set for instant on mode. Most updates will download when you're not using the console so you will never notice them.

Just an update. The dual layer blu ray discs will hold 50GB

No the capacity of Blu Ray discs is 25 GB. That is a big reason the games have an initial large update. All the discs does is provide the license for the game. I have gone completely digital I would rather just purchase then online and download them
initially since I am going to have to do it anyway. :)

It really depends on the game. If you are playing a game that is online-only, or has major online components (Black Ops 4 for example), it is always going to have beefy updates and patches. Unfortunately its just the way of the world now. Sucks I know,
    sadly nothing we can do.
