    Xbox Once Controller not turning on unless USB cable connected


    As the title said, my Xbox One Controller that I use on my PC, does not turn on when I hold the Xbox button. Instead, its just constantly flashes. This started happening only recently when my controller suddenly turned off while gaming

    Q's about Xbox controller / batteries and recharging

    If we place other brand AA rechargeable batteries (NiMh) in the xbox one controller (regular or elite) and if we connect the USB cable to the controller Will it recharge the batteries?

    If there is no batteries in the controller and you connect controllers/usb cable to the Xbox or any other power source will the controller work as if it's a wired controller?

    Xbox One Controller Won't Turn On

    My Xbox One day one controller will not turn on unless I get a micro usb cable and plug it into the console first. Once I do that and unplug it, it works fine

    Do you use the Xbox Controller adapter or just the Bluetooth in the PC? Also what about fresh batteries?

    I was able to fix it when I realized that someone put old batteries in the pack that I got my "fresh batteries" from. A simple battery change fixed it, thanks

    Hey,

    So I use an Xbox 1 controller to game on my PC. It seems to work well when connected to a USB cable but when I connect it to the bluetooth and remove the cable, it turns off. Also it does not turn on unless it is connected to the USB cable. Any clue on why
    this is happening? Would really appreciate your help. TIA!
    Hi there, you need to check if the controller is bluetooth compatible.

    Problem with controller

    I have this same exact problem. The xbox can communicate with the controller (the console will turn the controller on, and the controller will turn the console on wirelessly), but it will not do anything more than that unless plugged in with the micro USB
    cable. The controller does bind when I use the connect button on the back and point it at the Kinect, but none of the buttons do anything wirelessly.

    Hey Petebary,

    So you say the controller now does not turn on once you plug it in, just vibrates when you insert it. The USB connection to the controller is how it powers up so would you mind trying to put in some batteries into the controller to see if it simply turns
    on?

    When you hold down the Xbox button on the controller it will start flashing. As long as the light is on, the controller is being powered.

    If there is no power connected with USB or with batteries, the controller will need to be exchanged. If there is power with batteries, then maybe you should try a different USB cable.

    If the controller is able to turn on with batteries then you may need to try connecting using Bluetooth, Wireless or another USB cable.
