Xbox on permanent mute

Discus and support Xbox on permanent mute in XBoX Accessibility to solve the problem; my son plays his Xbox most days.     my son plays his Xbox most days. Yesterday he turned it on and found the mute symbol appearing in the top right hand corner of the tv screen.

    Rebooting and updating the controller has made no difference.

    What else can I check! Microsoft advise I need to use a stereo adapter between headset and Xbox. But I do not understand why this is necessary as everything has worked for at least 2 months when the headset and controller were purchased

    We have tried multiple headsets and the mute icon is still on X with no sound The headsets all work on other devices

    Not following...they are supposed to support headphones that attached to controller AND actually did work for about 8 weeks - and then the mute icon appeared. We have also tried to attached via the cord to the control and the mute icon still appears

    you need headphones with cables, the wireless ones don’t work just like the earphones of iphone
