Xbox making a ticking/clicking noise

Howdy,

So today I turned on my xbox to find its making a ticking/clicking noise. It's never done it before so I was curious and started looking it up. The only things I could find were posts from 2014 regarding an older model of Xbox One having a faulty hardrive
which caused this noise but nothing about any of the more recent models of Xbox One (mine was bought New Years of 2017 so it's a little over a year old). Is this faulty hardrive still an issue that haunts the Xbox One's? If so, should I send it in to Microsoft
or are there other solutions?

It does not matter where the HD is from All mechanical (Non SSD) HDs will start making clicking noises when they are starting to go bad.

Your best bet would probably be to try and setup a repair order.

Yes, according to information obtained from the Microsoft community forum it seems that this sound is caused by the fan since it is common in new generation consoles for this to happen, but if it happens frequently what I can recommend is that you send your console to fix. Regarding the green screen, check if the HDMI cable is connected correctly and verify the screen configurations. If everything is fine, I would recommend restoring your console while keeping your games and applications. This process will not delete any data, it will only restore any corrupt files that are on the system.

1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
2. Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console information > Reset console.
3. Select Reset and keep my games and apps. This will reset the operating system and remove all potentially corrupted data without deleting your games or apps.

If even doing this the problem persists, you should take into account the main recommendation, which was to send your console for repair.

That really quiet ticking noise that you can't hear unless you stick your ear on the console? That's not the HDD. HDDs don't make a ticking noise like that.

A quiet clicking/ticking type noise will be normal hard drive noise.

But it's hard to tell if the buzzing noise is normal unless you can hear it.

Do you have any way of putting it on youtube or something?

Also do you have Kinect?

There were threads about Kinectless Xboxes making a high pitched hum. You could try searching the forums for one of these threads.
