Xbox Live versus Game Pass

Live is the service you need to pay to play online. Gamepass is a service which let you play games that are in the gamepass for no extra costs exept the fe for the gamepass.

Let me try and explain it a little better.

Gold subscription- Required if you want to play online multiplayer and do party chat with friends. Another benefit of a gold subscription is that you get 4 games a month for free now MS chooses what games those are and they are 2 xbox one games and 2 backwards
compatible games either 360 or original xbox games. The 360 and original xbox games you get to keep forever. For the One games in order to play them you do have to have an active gold subscription. Each month you can find the games with gold games at this

Game Pass- Think of this like a Netflix subscription there is what is called a vault of over 100 games that as long as you have an active game pass subscription you can download and play those games. Just like Netflix MS does add and take away games from
this vault every so often.

You can have a game pass subscription without having a gold subscription you would just not be able to play the multiplayer aspect of any of the games on the game pass. and you can have a gold subscription without having a game pass subscription.
