xbox live issues on xbox 1

Evening Everyone,

My son is having issues with his xbox live gift card that was purchased last Christmas and does not expire for another month. It just stopped working. He is not able to access xbox live at all. I reached out to microsoft but they honestly were no help.
why would it stop working???? suggestions and help please very frustrated kid.

May i ask for a little more information in regards to the gift card. Is it a xbox live gold subscription? Or a gift card to add money to his account?

In regards to him not being able to connect to online.

He can start by heading over to settings on his console

Network, advanced, alternate mac address and select clear. This will prompt a restart of the console.

If that has no success, he may completely shut the console down. By holding finger on power button until the console powers down. Unplug the console and wait a good few monents, plug the console back in and start it back up.

In regards to the gift card. I would try and reach back out to support whilst signed into his account, so they may better look into the account to see what might be the issue. You may reach out here to

Hello Meredith,

How exactly did Xbox Live "stop working"? Is the console still able to connect online? In the settings of the consoles you can do a network test.

Is your son getting an error message? If so, could you please tell us the exact wording of the error message?

Your son can check the status of the Xbox Live Gold membership at https://account.microsoft.com/services/.

The Gold membership is however ONLY required for online multiplayer and party chat. Your son should be able to connect to Xbox Live to access the online store and to send and recieve text messages without problems.

If the Xbox Live connection doesn't work, it's not because of the Gold membership.

I'm guessing that your son used the gift card and has had Xbox Live Gold up until it stopped working recently.

does he get an error message when he tries to play online?

check to see whether the subscription is still active on Xbox by signing in to his account at

https://account.microsoft.com/services/

if that is active then try resetting your router by turning it off and unplugging the power for 5 minutes.

while the router resets, Power Cycle the Xbox by holding the power button for 10 seconds until it completely turns off then unplug the power from the wall socket.

start the router first and wait for all the lights to go green then start the Xbox.

give that a go and let us know how you get on.

We just need a little more information on the issue.

In meantime try this:

1. Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.

2. Wait 30 seconds, then plug the power cord back in.

3. Press and hold the BIND (controller sync button located on the left side of the console or bottom right if a one S or one X) and the EJECT button and then just press the Xbox button on the console once.

4. Continue holding the BIND and EJECT buttons for 10-15 seconds.

5. Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the BIND and EJECT buttons after the second power-up tone.

6. The console should power up and take you directly to the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter.

7. To reset your console from the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter, use the D-pad and A button on your controller to select Reset this Xbox.

9. When prompted, select Keep games and apps. This option will reset the OS and delete all potentially corrupted data without deleting your games or apps.

I think Xbox Live has been having issues since yesterday. Last night I couldn't sign in to Xbox 360 but could sign in on Xbox 1. I use to get syncing issues with Minecraft Xbox 1. Unlike Xbox 360, with Xbox 1, all your game saves are stored on Xbox Live.
One of my friends said it was to prevent modding. Come back in a few days, all should be fine by then. That's what I did when I had syncing issues with Minecraft Xbox 1. Xbox Live and The Internet, isn't always going to be 100% reliable. When Xbox Live does
have issues aka Xbox Live Status, sometimes our gamerscores and friends lists say 0. But Microsoft backs up our stuff on Xbox Live. That way when it's running normally, our profiles, gamerscores and friends list numbers return to normal. So should our Xbox
1 game saves. Maybe someone is dos attacking the servers, or they're just having a bad day.
