Xbox Live Gold turned into GPU

if you have over 1 month of GPU left I recommend waiting for it to run out as you will lose those months if you cancel (you will only get back the $1 used to upgrade and convert any gold/gamepass to UGP)

If you subscribed to Ultimate, you would need to cancel that subscription or wait for it to run out before adding a prepaid card. Otherwise, as it states, prepaid gold or game pass codes will be converted to Ultimate when you redeem them. If you already
redeemed the code, there would be no way to revert it back to gold.

An update for anyone else looking to use this approach.

My GPU (which was the 3 months for £1 offer) expired yesterday and today I bought 3*12 month Live Gold and 1*1 month GPU, applied the 3 Live Golds one by one (ensuring that recurring billing was turned off) and then applied the 1 month GPU. I now have 3 years of GPU.

It should be under "With Xbox game pass ultimate, can I still redeem code for Xbox Live Gold"

So basically, if your current subscription is already game pass ultimate and if you redeem your Xbox Live Gold codes for 12 months, they will turn into 4 months of GPU.

Wait until your GPU has expired...if you add Live Gold now, it will automatically convert that Live Gold to GPU so, instead of 12 months of Live Gold, you would get 4 months GPU.

Wait for your GPU to expire

Give it 24 hours to make sure

Purchase/apply the Live Gold to your account

Just for information: Microsoft no longer sell 12 month blocks of LG so you either need to pay monthly via Microsoft or buy a 12 month card from a 3rd party seller and then apply it to your account
