Please help - complete Xbox noob.

Inherited a 360 hand-me-down from brother-in-law for Xmas so our kids could play Minecraft etc and chat together.

I've paid for a Xbox Live Gold subscription and have the kids accounts added as Child Accounts in my Family. Yet they still don't seem to be able to send or receive Friend Requests from their accounts. We get nothing from when they send them - and if we
try - it comes back with an error. This has probably been going on for two weeks since I upgraded to Gold and everyone is getting a little frustrated.

Are we missing something? Am I correct in my understanding that if I have Gold they should be able to add Friends while part of my Family on my Xbox?

Have found all of this super frustrating with vague error messages and little guidance. Took us the best part of a month before we realised we needed Gold even. Hope you can help.

Thanks VERY MUCH in advance for any help.

    :)

You can't share gold membership on an xbox 360. The xbox home feature is available only for xbox one

One thing I can tell you is this with the 360s EVERY account would have to have their own gold subscription.

All the family settings do is allow you to regulate their access to certain features like playing multiplayer games, chatting with friends, making purchases, etc....

Only the Xbox One Home console feature allows you to share your subscriptions with anyone else on the console that you have designated as your home console.

Thank you everyone who took the time to reply and help.

I was able to find a few more Privacy options for the kids that were buried in some menus on the website, and this helped out them Friending other Friends for chat on the Xbox app for example, but didn't help in game or on the 360.

Getting the 360 has been great fun to have and I've had a bit of fun with it myself. The kids have used it heaps which if nothing else, proves to me and my wife that they will actually want to use it and not just sit in the corner like our Wii U did. So
it's looking like I'll start saving for a One S - probably a pack with Overwatch bundled.

It's frustrating to try and navigate the MS help when they have obviously moved on to the One and just expects everyone with a 360 to know what they are doing. I found the same with the Wii U and Disney Infinity 3 - all the "help" was obviously written
for an experienced user, and not someone starting from scratch with zero experience.

    Thanks again.

    Sorry you having problems.

For me it sounds, that your privacy settings for your kids are set to not allowing accepting friends. May its an issues with the age of kids. If they are to young you need to approve with microsoft that the parents are allowing that they can play.

the family, security and privacy settings are a little overwhelming at first.

I suggest to head over here: https://support.xbox.com/de-DE/browse/xbox-one/security

adding friends is indepent from having Gold. Gold is mainly needed for Multiplayer.

For Xbox One you can set Gold for the Box, this means everyone using this Xbox having/using Gold.

    best of luck

    Hi Michael Quinn,

There may be a few things you will need to do. Start by going into Family Preferences from the Settings menu. You will need to look into child account settings to see if you need to change anything there for your child to be able to accept, send or even
    speak with their friends.

If that doesn't help, I would consider either speaking to Xbox Support or Accounts and billing.

    Hope this helps!
