xbox live Gold for $39.99 promotion

I am having the same issues with this recent $39.99 renewal offer. Clicking on the renewal button simply takes me to the deals page. You can renew there, but not for 40 bucks. It looks like they're trying to trick people into paying 60 bucks anyway. Which
is unethical, to say the least.

Before my Gold subscription expired, there was a promotion on the xbox homepage that said I could renew for $39.99 but only if I renewed through the in-dash link. When I tried to select the renew now button nothing happened. So I contacted support and they
told me that I couldn't get the promotion because I still had an active account and that I just needed to wait until the account expired and then I could take advantage of said offer. This made no sense as the promotion said something to the effect of "Don't
lose these valuable benefits, renew now!" which clearly indicated it was something you were supposed to do before your account expired. I listened to the support guy and waited for the account to expire and then of course the promotion disappeared. Now where
the promotion was it just says "Gold members get up to $700 in free games a year, join now."

Can I still get the promotion?

Although at this point I've wasted so much time with chatting with support and this that I'm not sure a few bucks off was worth the effort. I'm posting here because that is also what the next support guy said to do. I feel like the chat support guys are
just telling me anything to get me to clear off there docket.

So, I wonder who is eligible? I'm guessing no one is eligible. I also have been a gold member for a long time, 9 years. Thanks for posting this transcript.
