Xbox Live Gold: active on One, inactive on 360

Hi,

We are trying to download Portal: Still Alive, this months free game with Xbox Gold.

My daughter has an active Gold account, and it works fine on her Xbox One.

The only way we have found to be able to download Xbox 360 games with backwards compatibility is to fire up the old 360, download it (or at least start), then we can download it onto the Xbox One.

For some reason when we log into the 360 it there is no indication she is a Gold member. When we search and find Portal: Still Alive, it shows the 'Free with Gold' option. When we click it we are presented with the option to purchase an Xbox Gold account.

How do I fix this?

Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. First thing to make sure of here is that you are signed into the Same gamer tag that is being used on the Xbox one when you sign into the Xbox 360.

If you are, a quick troubleshooting step to try out first would be deleting the profile from the 360 and then redownloading it :

*Please note to "Delete profile only" so that you don't lose any saved data.

You can also
check here to make sure the subscription is still active. I recommend this because there is a "Home console" setting on the Xbox one that can make it seem like all profiles on this console have gold, when only one really does.

One last thing, you should be able to
claim these games with gold online here as well. Just sign into the account with gold to claim these titles. They will show up in your ready to install section on the Xbox one.

No, you can have a silver account, you don't need to be Gold.

They have spoken about deleting old inactive accounts, but this is only for accounts that haven't been used since the Original Xbox, so not Xbox 360 active accounts whether they be Gold or Silver.

With Xbox 360 titles you will own the games in perpetuity regardless of if your Xbox Live Gold subscription is active or not.

With Xbox One titles you will be able to play the game as long as your Xbox Live Gold subscription is active.

Xbox One games with gold are usable by you when you have an active gold subscription and have redeemed them. If your subscription ends, you will have to buy the game or resubscribe to xbox live gold to use them again. There is no
way to redeem a past xbox live game with gold when it is no longer available for redemption.

Xbox 360 games with gold are different - you own those whether you have xbox live gold or not - on xbox one and xbox 360.

Yep,you only need one active gold account on the xbox one & you need to set up gold sharing,details here

Each account on the 360 would need their own gold subscription though to play online
