XBOX Latency is so high, causing online lag

Can anyone help with why my Xbox latency is so high when I do a speed test on my Xbox? It always shows around a 160ms even though my upload and download speeds are good? Playing online games like fifa are so frustrating as their is always a delay which gives me a really unfair disadvantage.

I have a wired connection from my Virgin hub to my Xbox. I’ve tried restarting my router and Xbox several times but nothing seems to work. My Xbox one is probably about 4/5 years old, could this be the reason why it struggles so much when I game online? Any help would be much appreciated.

The latency is not related to the speed. Latency basically is the time that your ISP server / router takes to connect to the Microsoft / Xbox network servers

Please try this to see if the connection improves:

go to Settings > Network > Advanced Settings

Once you’re inside the Advanced Settings menu, go to DNS settings and select Manual from the list of available options.
When you get to the next screen, enter 8.8.8.8 in the box associated with the Primary DNS and 8.8.4.4 in the Secondary DNS box.

Once the default DNS addresses have been changed, restart your console and see if the issue has been resolved at the next console startup.

(If that doesn't work use 1.1.1.1 as primary and 1.0.0.1 as secondary)

now i know you are on virgin like i am, go to xbox settings - network - advanced and change dns to manual and enter

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

those are googles dns servers and this corrected my issue a while ago.

practically all your digital games will work on the Series S, there may be some that require updates to the s/x version, remember it is a discless console, it is a pretty good console though, cheap on electric.

I did a speed test using the web browser on my Xbox and that registered only 7 ms which seems very good.

Maybe it is just an issue with my Xbox being so old. The thing is when I play FIFA offline it tends to play very smoothly then when I play online on ultimate team it feels so clunky and there definitely feels a button delay which makes online gaming unbearable. I was considering upgrading to Xbox S. but was worried I might still have the same issues?

Do you know if my games would transfer over to the new console if I bought an Xbox S and logged in with my Xbox account?

ignore that latency test, it is just a network test to a central server in the middle of the US, better to open the xbox browser and run pingtest.net.

i get the same latency from mine

643Mbps down

56.2Mbps upload

158ms Latency

but when i test my ping to a server farm 200 miles away my latency is 6ms.

The older xbox will struggle sometimes with newer games too as it will be playing at a much lower fps than newer consoles and the internal hdd can make is chug a bit.
