Xbox IP address with no TV

You might want to see if your router has a network map feature, to show what devices are trying to connect to the network. It could be a webpage visible via the browser, or it could be an app on your smartphone.

Most routers use 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 as the local address, type it in your browser and you should see the admin interface (it may require user and pwd, but that is something you should know on your router).

Otherwise use "ipconfig" on the command line to get all your network details, router address included.

If I well remember when I did the same, if your laptop and xbox are in a local network (connected to the same router), the app should not ask for the IP but recognize the xbox already in the network (as
long as it is ON and connected to the network).

You should check if that is the case even if without a video output attached to the console it may be a problem.

When the app finds no xbox in the local network it will then ask for the IP, but if the cause is the xbox itself, providing one will not change the result.

I can't delete this for some reason... anyway I solved it. For some reason my mother in law's iPhone had the same IP address from the last time she was at the house and for some reason when she came over for a few days the XBox stopped connecting properly.
I shut off the router and restarted it, and it assigned a new IP Address to the XBox and then XBox Live started working.

Again, I cannot delete the last 2 comments so I have to add to them...

The real reason I was having problems was because the ip address that the XBox was on was previously blocked from all services at the router level by me when the TV we have downstairs had that ip address and I wanted to stop the TV from connecting to the
internet. But when the router assigned the TV a new ip address, I forgot to remove those restrictions on that ip. So when the router gave the XBox that ip address, those services were blocked. I saw my mother in law had that blocked ip address awhile later
and assumed there was a conflict between the two devices but I was wrong.

So the problem has been resolved.

You need to set the IP address for your xbox to manual.

Make sure you enter the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway addresses all correctly. (If you have the DMZ set up for the IP address 192.168.1.100, that must also be the xbox's IP address for it to work correctly.)
