Xbox installing games to both internal and external drives

Discus and support Xbox installing games to both internal and external drives in XBoX Games and Apps to solve the problem; It appears that when a game installs or updates it is doing so on both the external and internal HDDs.     It appears that when a game installs or updates it is doing so on both the external and internal HDDs.

    Is anyone else having this issue? Anyone at Microsoft aware of such an issue occurring?

    The Xbox one is currently running OS version 10.0.10586.1194

    External Seagate 2TB Game Drive for Xbox 360 gets Device not allowed error

    I have an xbox 360 that was running off a 8GB USB thumb drive with NO internal drive.

    I just purchased an seagate 2TB external usb game drive for xbox which is compatible with both the xbox one and xbox 360. When I started a game it asks where I want to store the game and I chose the external 2TB drive. I get the error “Device not allowed”.
    “The game only permits installing HD content on the Xbox 360 Hard Drive”. I bought a genuine Xbox USB external drive was expecting it to work seamlessly.

    Hiya bb buster,

    When you originally set up your external hard drive and elected to use it to store games, did you by chance select Copy instead of Move? If so, that is why you have a game file on the internal and external drives.

    Sorry for the late response. Been pretty busy, also not used my xbox much recently so I'm not 100% sure if this is still happening.

    As far as I'm aware I didn't elect to copy instead of move, and my issue is not about there being a copy of the games before hand. But new games that I've downloaded/installed since having the external drive have downloaded twice once on the external drive
    and once again on the internal drive.

    I couldn't imagine that being expected behaviour and if it is, why?

    Check Settings>System>Storage and see what drive defaults as the installation location.
    Hi. Both the internal (which only has one game installed) and the external which has 24 games installed still show available space. 727.6GB on internal and 3TB on external. Internal is listed as the capture location.

    are the games installed on an external drive or the internal one, if on an external then move to internal and try again, if on internal then move to external and try again, to see if its a drive issue, if thats possible that is.
