XBOX Insider Build Update Bricked, Then Manual Update to Oct 2020 Build Rolled Back Cloud...

I was recently on an XBOX build 19041.4333.amd64fre.vd_release_xbox_dev_2010.201007-0000. I don't think I ever signed up for the Insider program, so am not sure how a build with "dev" as part of the name made it onto my XBOX. I just downloaded the "XBOX Insider" app today and it says that my "Time In Program" is 0 years, 0 months. I'm the only one that has ever signed in on this XBOX.

Regardless of the build, I was playing Minecraft (Bedrock) about a month ago and synching my worlds to the cloud just fine without issue. An update tried to install a few weeks ago, resulting in a bricked XBOX with System Error: E208.

I just fixed the XBOX by installing the USB offline OSU1 Oct 2020 update build 10.0.19041.4981 (rs_xbox_release_2010.201009-0000).

My Minecraft worlds have all reverted their saves back to mid-September (losing about a month and a half of progress). Is there any way to get those synched worlds back. Is there a different "XBOX Live" cloud storage for "Insiders" as there is for GA (General Availability) XBOX OS builds? Do I need to rejoin the insider program to get my synched Minecraft worlds back? I tried purging all worlds from my local XBOX isolated storage packages Minecraft folder and pulled them back from the cloud, but they are all old.

I had to wait until Microsoft updated their OSU1 with the Oct 2020 bits, so I could apply a newer version than the insider build, and could update the XBOX from USB stick. Now the XBOX works, but the save games are about a month older than the last synch that it did successfully on the old insider build.

Questions: Is there a different "cloud" for save games when on the Insider builds? If so, would getting my XBOX on an insider build again give me access to the recent save games that I had during the last time I was on an Insider build? I'm assuming I'd have to purge my save games again before installing an insider build so my cloud saves don't get overwritten.

Is there an equivalent of a "Windows.old" or some other backup on the hard drive that I might be able to find if I pull the hard drive out, put it in my PC and copy the save games from a something like a backup partition or backup folder?

What partition are the save games and XBOX OS backups on, such as Temp Content, User Content, System Support, System Update, System Update2? Perhaps a recovery tool could like Minitool Recovery to undelete them if they haven't been overwritten yet.

Is there any administrative tool, or website to be able to manage my cloud based save games? Perhaps I can restore my world from mid-September?

Moving forward, it seems like there should be a "tool" to copy save games from "Isolated Storage" to a SMB network share (or even a removable USB drive). I'm currently use this process below now, which is a hassle but seems to work.

Manual Backup of Minecraft Worlds to My PC - For When Your Cloud and Local Saves Games Fail


I've figured out how to do this manually, but it would be nice to automate it. Currently I copy my save games using "My Files Explorer" (a paid app) from Isolated Storage > Packages > Microsoft.MinecraftUWPconsole > Localstate > games > com.mojang > minecraftWorlds To U:\Users\UserMgr0\AppData\Local\Packages\XBMCFoundation.Kodi_xxx > LocalState\userdata\library

I then use Kodi (XBMC) to copy that folder to my PC's SMB share, but first had to enable the "SMB support (libsmb2)" plugin, under Kodi > Add-ons > My add-ons > Virtual filesystems > "SMB support (libsmb2). I then connected to the \mycomputer\c$ hidden share of my PC by using Kodi's File Explorer > Add network location > use Protocol = Windows network (SMB). I also created a "file source" in Kodi to my XBMC profile's folder called "XBMC Library" pointing to Home Folder > UserData > Library , to make it quicker to get between the source and destination panes.
