Xbox home button does nothing

ok so i hit my xbox home button and all it does is dim my screen a bit . No menu pops up . Im not longer able to hit Y to go back to my home screen . I cant log in or out , check messages or anything . On boot up i tried to click my account name on the top
left corner of the home screen and it does the same thing . Dims my screen but thats it . This happened as soon as i tried to delete space to download a game . Strangely im able to play games still but not online . It freezes my console (last time i tried
anyways) . Ive yet to run into someone who has this same issue lol . Worst part is i got my xbox off a private sale last year and its buddies account im using . If i gotta factory reset ... there goes the hundreds of dollars ive spent in games cause i wont
be able to record this email and password .

Xbox home button does nothing

Double tapping the home button does nothing just causes the screen to dim. There is no side window that pops up with options. I can't even get into the settings to do a restart or anything. I didn't have this problem until I downloaded Forza 6 from the
store this am. What is going on with this mess.

Power cycle the console by holding down the power button for 10 seconds or until the console turns off.

Restart the console and see if that fixes the issue.

 

If you do a factory reset you can do it so it doesn’t delete your games and apps so no worries there.

Have you checked to see if your controller needs an update?

Go to settings, devices and accessories and check to see if there is an update available.
