Xbox Guide NOT showing up. When home button is pressed

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!,

my Xbox one has this wierd glitch with the guide menu in which when I click the home button on the controller all it does is darken the screen and make the noise but I can still play the game underneath it.

I hope there is a solution or this will have been a waste of $400 and I'll probably just go to PlayStation.

Red Dead Redemption(possibly making xbox run hot)

I am in the preview program, was playing red dead redemption(rdr) at 4pm est to about 6pm est, when I pressed and held down the home button to turn off system, nothing, tried it three more times nothing, pressed two buttons to bring up xbox 360 guide, pressed
Y to end game, game ended, tried holding down home button again,nothing, used touch button on front of console and noticed fan pushing out alot of hot air and top of system was rather warm as well, no other games have done this only rdr. any help would great.

Suggestion for Xbox One

You know on Xbox 360 how when you pressed the glowing button a little guide would come up? Why not make that the same for Xbox One? It would make it easier to send messages using that than going to your home screen finding the messages app and so on!

Can you please try a console hard reset to see if this helps with your problem. To hard reset the console please press and hold the power button on the front of the console for 5-10 seconds once the console has shut down please remove the power cable from
the wall outlet for 5 minutes then reconnect the power cable and power the console back up and hopefully it should now be okay.

I'm having the same issue myself. It just started happening tonight as far as I can tell.

If I do a hard reset will I lose any saved games, apps, etc...?

A console hard reset / restart should have no influence on games installed or game saves.

If you were to use the restore the console to factory default settings option then it will remove all profiles and game saves from the console and offer the option to remove games and apps. As long as your console is online and connected to the Xbox servers
then game saves should be held there and will be re downloaded to the console as required.

When this message appears can you press the Xbox button on the controller (not press and hold as this will bring up the turn console off screen) and hopefully the guide menu should appear and you can select the home option where you will see your recent
games/apps used.

To see all your games when you tap the Xbox button to bring up the guide if you press down it should highlight my games and apps just press A on the controller and all your games will be here. My games and apps is also located on the main home screen.

When you're back on your dashboard or through guide when you press the Home button, highlight what you need to close and press the menu button on your controller and select Quit.

I found the answer! On the Xbox 360, in order to pull up the invite/party/system menu, you pressed on the "Guide" button or the xbox symbol button on the controller. On the Xbox One controller, that button is reserved to return to the "Home" part of the
interface.... so, I found out that in order to bring up the 360 menu you need to press both the "View" and the "Guide" buttons simultaneously! From there, you invite or join players in the Xbox 360 virtual machine.
