    My son received a Xbox gift card as a present. When we type in the code to redeem online it says
    This code is not yet active. Contact the merchant to activate this code. We don't have a receipt for it, so how do we redeem it?

    EA access is only working with special ea access gift cards which afaik are not released yet. Usual microsoft gift cards are NOT working!

    It seems the retailer didn't run the card through the activation.

    You'll need to contact or return it to the retailer for them to do so.

    Hi RickArnold1,

    You cannot use a gift card to buy another gift card. Such as Xbox. As it don't work that way. You have to either have physical money (like a credit card) to buy things on the Xbox store or buy an Xbox gift card in the stores.

    Again, you cannot do it with a gift card

    The important parts would be

    "Do gift cards expire?

    No, gift cards purchased at retail never expire. Note that promotional gift cards like those from Microsoft Rewards or Xbox Live Rewards do expire."

    "What is the difference between a Microsoft Gift Card and an Xbox Gift Card?

    The cards work just the same. Once redeemed to your Microsoft account, you can spend your balance at Microsoft Store online, on Windows, and on Xbox."

    "Where can I spend a gift card?

    Once redeemed to your Microsoft account, your gift card balance is available to spend when you shop at Microsoft Store online, on Windows, and on Xbox. Gift cards do not currently work at physical Microsoft Stores."

    Should cover you. One thing I'm not certain with is if "gift cards" can be used to pre-order physical goods. Might want to check with Microsoft Store support on that?
