You may also have to do a hard reset of the console afterwards.

2. Check if there are any pending updates for your Xbox console. If there are, install them and try again.

Hi, Thanks. I tried those steps and they didn't help and there is no customer support at this time of day.

Luckily I tried again and this time I added the game to the basket and went to checkout. The checkout actually works and shows the correct account balance. We are now happy with the game purchased. It looks like the buy game page is broken and you need to use the basket in order to be successful.

commerce.microsoft.com shows a balance of $11.60 CAD. The Avatar Store shows a balance of $1.74 CAD. Pretty sure there's a problem with my account...
