xbox Gamertag qustion

I used a xbox Gamertag that no one else was using (ex: A), and I wanted to change the Gamertag, so I changed the Gamertag (ex: B), but the tag had a #number suffix after it.

So I tried changing the Gamertag again, wanting to change it back to the existing Gamertag (A).

However, Gamertag(A), which was originally not suffixed with a #number suffix, was suffixed with a #number suffix when I tried to change it back from B to A.

I'm sure I read and confirmed that when I changed the existing Gametag A to B, it said in Korean: "After you confirm the change, (the existing Gamertag A) will be available to other users.(변경 내용을 확인한 후에는 다른 사용자가 A을(를) 사용 수 있게 됩니다.)"

But that didn't explain that when I changed to Gametag B and then tried to go back to the old Gametag A, it would get a numeric suffix.

Can you shed some light on this? I want my original Gamertag back, without the "#number suffix".

Also, it can just take time for the servers to update with the original change. So if you did it all pretty quickly, the servers may not have updated yet to show that the original tag was freed up.

You can't if your gamertag a was already taken by others so if you had for example Apple (no suffix) but there are 4 other apple (suffix ) then changing it back won't solve your problem regardless if you freed up the name the other people still have the name so you would get a suffix you have to wait till Apple is completely freed up by the other 4

When you changed your original Gamertag (A) to a new one (B), it became available for others to use. However, when you tried to revert back to Gamertag A, it received a numeric suffix. Here’s why:

Gamertag Changes:
- Xbox updated gamertags to support a 12-character max, Unicode-based name of your choice.
- If a gamertag is already taken, a suffix with numbers is added to differentiate users with the same gamertag.
- Existing gamertags remain unchanged with no suffix.
- When you changed from A to B, A became available for others, and the suffix was added to prevent confusion.
- Unfortunately, you cannot remove the suffix once it’s assigned 1.
Suffix Details:
- Suffixes are subtle but always shown.
- They appear everywhere except in friends lists.
- Friends won’t see suffixes in their lists, but they may appear in games that support modern gamertags.

To summarize, your original Gamertag A now has a suffix due to the change. If you want to keep it without the suffix, consider choosing a unique gamertag.

That's what I thought his/her original qustion was about as it seemed like an Online issue that he/she was experiencing.
