Xbox Gamepass Ultimate not delivered after payment

Can you verify your Game Pass Ultimate subscription is active on your account at https://account.microsoft.com/services?

Do you receive any specific error code/message when trying to play any Game Pass game? You can find all the games available on Game Pass here:

Keep in mind that there was a recently a service outage affecting game access and cloud gaming, purchases and subscriptions in the Microsoft Store, and general account management as per the Xbox Live Status so first try to hard reset your console. Be sure to wait at least 10-15 seconds before reconnecting the power to completely reset the power supply.

Two things

First you need core or ultimate for multiplayer

Gamepass for console doesn't include multiplayer and needs core or ultimate

And yes you need a payment option on file for ultimate

Ultimate os cheaper then core and gamepass for consolr

However you will need to have a different payment method as Malta isn't a supported region

For Xbox live or gamepass ultimate

Xbox ultimate includes gold and gamepass, your one year of live got converted into game pass ultimate time, but you would still have had live and gamepass, after you bought gamepass ultimate, it imediately transfers everything to gamepass ultimate, but
since you canceled it, the converted time is also canceled, you should contact support.

The ultimate gamepass is constantly evolving on the pc, Microsoft makes every effort to deliver the best service to everyone, your problem would be just using the keyboard on that pc game?
