XboX Game Statistics - Consoles vs PC

Greetings all,

I've been playing video games for as long as I can remember. I genuinely enjoy them as they help me blow off some steam but also entertain me. However, I only recently came to realize how far video games have gone these days. Major tournaments are popping
here and there, production companies make serious cash and people involved in gaming are more than ever were.

Taboos around people playing games are also long gone as they aren't being as criticized anymore, especially with all that money made.

So, I thought to myself what are the actual numbers and what is the video game industry looking like? And there I was, scrolling through pages in google search until I came around this page https://www.wepc.com/news/video-game-statistics/#console-gaming.

As an Xbox and nowadays PC user, the numbers were staggering, to the point they were somewhat confusing. Then it hit me, how do people come across these numbers and how accurate are they? Does Microsoft reveal such information or is it collected by individual
statistics companies? How can one correlate and distinguish between Xbox console users and PC gaming users for the same games? Isn't the account used the same across all platforms? Is it the download that matters? And what if the game is pre-installed in a
hard drive?

Hiya,

These tend to be extremely accurate as they come from the producing companies themself, for example the console's sold is accurate because Sony monitors how many times a purchase is made. Microsoft may reveal general data, such as geographical areas where
xbox's sell or an averaged number of time played on a console. But they can not and will not send personal information out without your consent.

The distinction between console and PC games come from, usually, server connection, take Apex: Legends, it is on PC, Xbox, and PS4, everytime you login to the game you log on to a server. if you log on a PS4 you go to a PS4 server, on a PC you go on a PC
server, and Xbox the same is true. They can only gather this data through online connections, or by how many discs are purchased for that select console.

I would assume if you emailed microsoft and requested specific stats, such as the number of people who have a Gold Xbox Live account they may give you an exact or approximate number for these companies to use. However, I would also think that your request
would get drowned out by the larger statistic companies who ask for this data all the time and are willing to pay for it.

But you should be able to ask and they should be able to answer (if they see the email).

Sidenote: I know that they disclose these to investors starting like... four or five years ago but they are stepping back in the amount of info and how often.
