    I've been working with a number of other users to fix broken xbox related packages for a while now. I've had very broken installations twice now which I've managed to fix despite the common methods not working. Both of which were potentially caused by a system restore on my C drive, while my games were on the D drive (back when they were able to install onto it, fromthe previous version where they defaulted to WindowsApps and not XboxGames).

    So this is being posted as a discussion because I'm fairly sure at this point that this particular issue is not being caused by there something being wrong with my xbox/microsoft store/gaming services, but there being something wrong with those, and on my configuration.

    Note this is only for game pass games, other games on the xbox app install and run fine.

    For anyone wondering I just completely removed all apps, app packages, registry entries, services, and cache related to these, and then got them pack by doing an in place windows upgrade, and then running an sfc scan for good measure. Nothing changed between trying to install on D and failing, and then installing on C, didnt even restart the PC or any services. (removed as many contributing factors as possible besides the drives).

    I had this when I first tried it. Turns out the Game-Pass version just doesn't like being installed on any drive other than the C:\ drive. Do you have the game installed on another drive than C:\?

    Are you trying to install the game to a drive other than the C Drive? Ive seen that error code before and remember it maybe being like an old glitch on the windows store that some games needed ti be downloaded to the C drive or something like that.

    Hi,

    I'm curious to know why your NTFS drive allocation is higher than 4096? Anything higher is only really used for storage drives beyond 16TB.

    Unlike other download services Windows Games and Game Pass games are encrypted. I can only assume their encryption method does not support unit sizes that are not the standard 4096. Do you have any other drives you can install games to other than the C:\

    Same issue here too.

    New Windows 11 PC with a 400 GB boot partition with 109 GB free and several NVMe drives with up to 2 TB free but I keep getting error 0x80070003 while installing or updating any game from the Xbox app because they are being downloaded first to my C: drive before being moved to the drive I actually specified the game to be installed to.

    The Xbox app defaults to the C: drive and I can change it to any other drive and it seems to apply but as soon as I close the app and reopen it then it resets back to C:. It seems like a very serious bug or oversight to me because games were installing fine until recently but as my User folder has grown larger and the amount of free space on my C drive has reduced then so have the number of issues with games installing from the Xbox app. I now no longer download any new game or update any existing game from my library that are installed across several drives due to error 0x8007003. I have NO games installed on C; that is used primarily for Windows and non-gaming application installs.

    All my games are installed on other drives from D to O, all of which have at least 250 GB free and several of them are almost empty with almost 2 TB free. Yet I cannot install games to these drives because my C drive is being used instead of the drives I am installing the game to! How stupid is that?

    Ok, I did all of the steps above, and I am trying to install directly to the drive, and it is an NTFS, although the game on C: drive shows the same file manager error but does not show the Xbox game pass launching thing and no game pass error, hope I am giving enough information.
