Hi, thanks for getting in touch, the only subscription that includes the PC games pass is the ultimate one, but this will also give u access to Xbox one and Xbox live gold, there is no separate pass for pc

So crediting money my son's account would allow him to subscribe to PC Game Pass until the money runs out?

If you want to buy the $1 deal you would need an Xbox gift card. A Game Pass gift card would just add game pass to your account and you would just be paying the amount you have to pay for the gift card itself.
