xbox game pass .exe location

Since XBF Ruben D is so set on closing a post just because it got necroed after like a month, we instead have to post a new question and flood the site with the same questions that never got a chance to be answered or properly discussed. At least 2 posts regarding this closed by them and it's always after someone says to go into the hidden windowsapps folder....odd isn't it? "Go make a new post so people have to dig even further to find a further or more detailed answer or get help", is that it? Instead of helping? What? Why? What does that do for anybody?

Anyways, the reason for this post. Xbox game pass .exe location? I found something in the hidden windowsapps folder, and I set my permissions to allow me into the folder, but when I double click the non-existent icon to launch the game, it says I don't have access or permission. It says it's an "Application" under "Type". Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age is the game in question. Trying to mod out the crappy new Job boards back to the old PS2 license board and the shops back to the way they were on PS2 using Vortex mods or some other way that can make it happen. Doesn't even have to be Vortex. I am not asking how to mod, I am asking where the .exe is located.

Hi,

Almost all of the Game Pass titles on PC are installed the WindowsApps folder which will either be located in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps or in the root directory of other drives. This folder is protected and encrypted, even if you take control of the folder from the default 'Trustedinstaller', you still won't have full access to the files within.

If you're really passionate about this game and wish to mod it then I suggest you buy the version available on Steam as there are no such restrictions there.

Hi, having also wondered this as I just got Game Pass for PC simply because its such a good deal, here is what I found:

Despite installing the game into my E: drive, the .exe file is still located in my OS C: drive.

The address for Metro Exodus for example was;

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\DeepSilver.ProjectWindfall_1.0.11.0_x64__hmv7qcest37me

The application file has no icon or anything and trying to launch the game using this exe will display the error:

Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriete permissions to access the item.

This is despite me having full access over the folder and its subcontents (otherwise microsoft doesnt allow you to even open them in the first place). It seems like regardless of being able to access the .exe, only the Xbox Game Pass (Beta) app allows it to
be run.

That doesn't matter. True, they are installed and managed by the Game Pass Beta app, but the games still install to the same hidden Windows Apps folder as standard Windows 10 apps.

To gain access you need to change some simple admin privileges.
