  1. Xbox Game Bar - "The selected microphone could not be found."

Hey all. Looking for a bit of help. I recently got a new audio interface (iConnectivity Audio4c), and got it all hooked up to use as my main I/O for all my audio. Previous to this, I'd been using a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 for about 6 years with good results.

Last night, I attempted to join an Xbox party with friends to play Halo, and I kept getting an error "The selected microphone could not be found.". I'd never had this issue before with my older interface. The audio out to the speakers/headphones works just fine. I was able to switch it over to my Logitech webcam's microphone at least for the evening, but that was less than ideal.

    Troubleshooting I've attempted:

    • I confirmed that the mic/interface was in fact working (attempted to use Discord, Slack, and another random browser-based tool to check levels, all were successful).
    • Confirmed that Xbox Game Bar could see the mic and that signal was coming through. The screenshot above doesn't show it, but the mic signal bar moves when I speak into the mic.
    • Changed the input option from "Default" to my specific device, just in case.
    • I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the interface (with lots of restarts in between).
    • I checked the Sound Control Panel's properties for the input. Listen back works. Apps can't take exclusive control of the device. The only somewhat weird thing is that I'm unable to dial in a different default format (it's stuck on 8 channel, 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality)) - unsure whether I could modify this on my last interface or not.
    • I checked to ensure that both Xbox and Xbox Game Bar were allowed access to my mic via Settings -> Microphone, and toggled both off and back on.
    • Cleared the app cache for Xbox and Xbox Game Bar.
    • Reached out to the interface's customer support team (whom I've been chatting with somewhat frequently already, so hopefully they'll hit me up soon-ish)

    Any other suggestions?

Xbox Game Bar picking up too much background noise?

Hi there lolzcam welcome to the community forum! Christopher here, an Xbox fan just like you and has been on Xbox for years already. I would really love to make your day by helping you out. It seems some fellow gamers have found a solution! Give it a try!

"We could test if with the volume, it can capture a little less the air that records when speaking and that does not allow you to hear your voice cleanly.

To install a new microphone, follow these steps:

Make sure the microphone is connected to the equipment.

    Select Start> Settings> System> Sound.

In sound settings, go to Input> Choose input device, then select the microphone or recording device you want to use.

To test a microphone that has already been installed:

Make sure the microphone is connected to the equipment.

    Select Start> Settings> System> Sound.

In sound settings, go to Input> Test Microphone and look for the blue bar that rises and falls as you speak into the microphone. If the bar moves, the microphone is working properly.

If the bar isn't moving, select Troubleshoot to correct the microphone problems."

Game bar won't register mic when overlay isn't active

Hi ethan1222, my name is Oskayra and I will be happy to help you.

Based on the symptoms you describe, it sounds like there is an issue with the way the Xbox Game Bar is configured to use your microphone.

Here are some things you can try to fix the problem:

    1. Check that your microphone is properly connected to your PC. Make sure it is connected to a compatible USB or audio port and that it is turned on.

    2. Check your microphone settings. Open the Windows Sound Control Panel and make sure your microphone is selected as the default input device.

    3. You can also check the microphone sensitivity level to make sure it is set correctly.

    4. Check your Xbox Game Bar settings. Open the Game Bar and go to Settings > Group Chat. Make sure the microphone you want to use is selected in the Input selection box.
If you have tried all of these and the problem persists, you can try the following:

    5. Reinstall Xbox Game Bar. To do this, open the Windows Settings menu and go to Apps & Features. Search for "Xbox Game Bar" and click "Uninstall." Once Game Bar has been uninstalled, restart your PC and reinstall it.

    6. Update your audio drivers. Outdated audio drivers can cause compatibility issues with the Xbox Game Bar. To update your audio drivers, open Windows Device Manager and search for "sound, video, and game controllers." Right-click your device's audio driver and select "Update Driver."

If you've tried all of these solutions and the issue still persists, you can contact Xbox Support for help.

Here are some additional tips that may help you fix the problem:

    1. Close all other applications that may be using your microphone. This includes apps like Discord, Skype, and Zoom.
Try using a different microphone. If you have an external microphone, try connecting it to your PC and see if it works.

    2. Try using a different USB port to connect your microphone. Sometimes USB ports can cause compatibility issues with microphones.

I hope this helps you solve the problem. good luck
