Xbox freezes and cuts off anything requiring the use of the home button

A couple things to try when having slow response from the system is to do a complete power shutdown of the system, unplug the console from power as well as the power adapter for a minimum of 30 seconds then plug it back in and see if helps boot things up
a bit better.

You can also try booting up with all devices disconnected should you use any external drives, wired controls, etc..

Another thing to do is do a reset of the console while keeping your games and apps to flush caches, refresh the system and also help with any stuck updates pending. To do that you can do the following.

1. Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.

2. Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info > Reset console.

3. On the confirmation dialog, choose
Reset and keep my games & apps

If it is only occurring with a specific game or app then a game /app file may have become corrupt and I would recommend a full uninstall and reinstall of the game or app to see if that helps

You can also try a full reset but that will clear the system back to factory and I'd recommend that be last thing you try but before that I'd say speak to tech support to see if they can further assist or if perhaps hardware service is needed.

Misses Quinzel, if you pause the game in a cut scene with the xbox home button the game freeze

it is plugged into a power strip, i have rebooted, reset and done a power cycle and it still happens. I can play the games fine but once i press the home button the game freezes and you hear the menu sound but the xbox just cuts off and restarts.

My Xbox simply wont turn off. I hold Home button on controller, select Console Off and it freezes, then. I have to reboot and then it turns off fine.

Holding the Xbox button for 5-7 secs will just restart console and not turn off.

I have same problem. Using the power saving mode, but I am not able to turn it off as ussual by holding Home button on controller and tgen Console off. It just freezes (kinect turns off), but console and controller still on.
