  1. Xbox family safety- my son has unlimited time with 0 hrs

    Good morning all,

One of my children appears to have unlimited time on our Xbox. I have limited him to 0 hrs every day across all devices. The history shows that I have not given him time in a week, but it also shows that he has played two hours this morning with an average of 2.5 hrs per day.

The only thing that seems to work is per-game limitations. I’m not real interested in setting per game limitations for every game on the console. I’d rather set one and be done.

Does anyone have any ideas why he may have unrestricted access without being given time?

I cleared all the time limited and reset them twice.

    Thanks

    :)

Hello dear Gamer, first it's a pleasure to be able to help you today.

    My name is Vinicius.

I am a gamer and independent advisor on the XBOX community platform.

Hey masterblasterNC, how are you today? Hope you're well.

masterblasterNC, try to remove your son's account from the family, wait 20 minutes then add his account back.

Then, sign in to your Microsoft account. (https://account.microsoft.com/family/home)

On your family page, scroll to your kid's name and select Screen Time. (If you don’t see

your kid's name, use "Add a family member" to add their account to your family group or create a new account for them if needed.)

To set one limit that applies to both the Xbox and the PC, turn on "Use one screen time schedule."

To manage time limits separately, scroll down and turn on screen time for Windows devices or Xbox, whichever you want to set first.

Click "Set a time limit." Then choose a start time and an end time for each day of the week.

You can program the Xbox to send a notification to your kids when their screen time is ending.

To do this, press the Xbox button on the controller.

Select System > Settings > Preferences > Notifications > Xbox Notifications > System and turn on "System notifications." Your kid will see the clock count down when time is ending.

I should probably also say (since it will be asked). He does not know my password.

I also have other children. Their limitations appear to function fine.

    Thanks again

    Hi Jessica,

Are you controlling your sons account through the family safety features of your Microsoft account or just through the options on the Xbox itself? I ask because I control friend requests through the family safety app on my phone and wasnt asked to set up a pin for my son.

Please give us the choice to OPT-IN to your 24 hr check in for those of us that want the future.

100% AGREE THAT THEY SHOULD GIVE AN OPT-IN OPTION

(a)Has DRM, check in every 24 hrs , Family sharing. Allways online xbox one.

    Or

(b)No DRM can play Offline games no 24 hrs check in , resell trade in games ect, Dont need internet to play xbox one.

MY ANSWER IS (A) Has DRM. Check in every 24 hrs, Family Sharing, Allways online

Personally I would set up the family safety app if only because of the level of control it gives you over screen time, spending, and other content your kids are consuming.

You could try removing the pin lock on your sons account and then reapplying the lock via the family safety app. Its off by default as far as I am aware so you should see friend requests or lists of friends your son already has.

Let me know how you get on. Im happy to help.
