Xbox External Hard Drive Not Letting Me Start Up Games

it does sound like the drive is failing tbh, ca you transfer any of the games from the external drive to your internal one and the see if they start up? if they do then it sounds like the drive could be on its way out.

Try a full xbox power cycle and also try a different usb port on the console too

if you haven't yet be sure to try the following steps:

1. try the manual power cycle steps like mentioned on the following link, be sure to wait at least 60 seconds before powering on again:

2. Also try and see what happens when connecting the external storage device via a different USB port on the console
3. Try and run a tool (via PC) to test the hard drive. This may result in all content be removed from the drive though.
   
   I had weird issues at some point, slowness, games crashing etc. and eventually I narrowed it down to the external drive, Ihave a Seagate drive and on their website there is a tool to test the drive which did show drive hardware issues. So I had the drive replaced.

Had the same issue. I think it was a problem with my external hard drive. I unplugged it and did a hard reset on the xbox. I let it start back up and signed in. I then plugged the external hard drive back in and Disney Plus was working again, no more
error code 39. I am not sure if this will work for everybody, but it worked for me.

Have you tried playing this on your own xbox has it should sync data for the game on load up?

Secondly was the game installed on an external hard drive or your Xbox drive?
