Xbox Elite Controller series 2 isn't recognised on PC after updating

FIXED. In case anyone else has this issue, it was the firmware update that completely broke Steam support, so the paddles are just glorified face buttons. You can revert the firmware by opening the Xbox Accessories app and running the following command (press Win + R to get the prompt to input it) xboxaccessories:\\firmwareupdate?legacyDowngrade=true This will revert the firmware and restore steam support.

That's odd, it seems that the update can be the one that's interfering with the controller functionality.

Let's try isolating the issue a bit more, are you able to test the controller with a different windows PC and check how it goes?

Also, check if your windows system and all apps are up to date

Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update;
Click Check for Updates;
Click the Download and Install Now option, if available (Install optional updates as well)
Also, check the Microsoft Store for any updates on the Xbox apps and its services and update everything too.

If the issue persists in the other PC and yours is up to date. Try this:

Reinstall your controller driver:
Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager > search something like Xbox controller category (or similar) > expand the category using the little arrow (">") > select delete/uninstall driver

Click OK, restart your PC and reconnect the controller.

If the issue persists, reinstall Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator driver. (If the uninstall option doesn't appear, select reinstall or similar)

You can do it following previous steps, but now select Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator.

Can take a while, would be great to wait up to 15 minutes before trying again

Same issue here, after various updates to Windows 11.

Firstly, the device was before recognised as "xbox elite series 2" I believe, but is now recognised as a generic xbox wireless controller.

Secondly, the paddles on the back are now disabled if no profile is selected. However, if a profile is selected, the paddles on the back are recognised as the A, B, X and Y buttons.

Fingers crossed MS will update this soon! Great controller otherwise. I would like to be able to use the paddles though.

There was a new update released, can you try updating your Elite Series 2 controller again?

I also have the Elite Series 2 controller and I do not run into these issues when using it with the PC.

I also am experiencing this issue after purchasing the Halo Elite Series 2 controller, unable to use it in bluetooth as the A button toggles the xbox game bar and there isn't a prompt to update the firmware on xbox accessories app.
