Xbox Elite controller randomly disconnects despite being plugged into PC via cable.

Your instructions did not help. I already said in the post that I had updated the drivers. You did not read my post.

I bought a new controller and updated the drivers and I am still experiencing the exact same problem. Even though it is plugged in, the controller keeps powering off randomly.

I do not use the controller wirelessly, I always have it plugged in via a USB-C cable. This is my second USB-C as the one I had with my first controller was giving me the same issue.

I have tried plugging the controller into the USB 3.0 port as it was previously plugged into the USB 2.0 port. It still presents with some issues and the game randomly stops accepting inputs.

You need to perform further troubleshooting steps in order to fix this, here's how:

1.) Update your Xbox controller

If your controller connects when using a USB cable but doesn't stay connected after removing the cable, reconnect the cable and see if there’s an update available for your controller:

Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.

Under Profile & system, select Settings.

Under Devices & connections, select Accessories.

On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “…” to check the firmware version for your controller.

If it says there’s no update available, your controller is current. If it says “Update,” follow the steps provided.

Once your controller is updated, disconnect the USB cable and try connecting wirelessly again.

2.) Solution 1: Update or Reinstall Graphics Driver

Right-click on the “Windows” icon located at the toolbar and choose “Device Manager”.

In the device manager wizard, click on the “Display adapters” option to expand the list of graphic card drivers installed on your computer and double-click on the dedicated driver to open its properties.

Navigate to the “Driver” tab and click on the “Update driver” button.

Now click on the “Search automatically for updated driver software” button to install the latest version of the driver on your computer.

Even after updating the driver, the issue is not resolved, try to click on the “Uninstall device” button to uninstall the video card driver completely from your PC.

After uninstalling the driver, restart your computer to automatically install the latest version of the driver on your computer.

3.) Download Xbox Accessories Application

Find the “Search” bar located adjacent to the Start button on your system.

Type in “Microsoft Store” and press Enter.

Search the “Xbox Accessories” inside the search bar and install it on your system.

After installing the application plug in your Xbox controller with USB, run the application and you’ll observe that your controller will be updated.

As soon as the controller is updated the Xbox controller keeps disconnecting issue would be resolved.

It sounds like 2 separate issues, One being the controller disconnects, and the other being the console disconnecting.

Are you able to plug your console into router with an Ethernet cable?

Thanks for the response. My PC is up to date and I have updated the controller via the Xbox Accessories app. I've plugged it into my PC and my Xbox, and have the same issue with both. The only common denominator is the cable itself, which came with my original elite controller from a couple years ago but the strange thing is the controller stays powered on even though the game stops registering input. On Xbox it'll actually say "Controller disconnected", on PC it just stops working.
