Xbox DVR Functionality "On Hold"

As a cord cutter, I'm really disappointed with today's announcement that the Xbox One DVR function for Over-The-Air broadcasts has been put on hold. I've been looking forward to this feature since it was announced last year and I bought the Xbox Hauppauge
TV tuner & an HD over-the-air antennae just for this ability.

I have Hulu & Netflix so I really don't watch much Live TV, but CBS doesn't allow their programming to be on Hulu and it also would've been extremely helpful during football season.

I'm hoping that this post will serve as an online petition in the Xbox Support Forums for all of the Xbox Users who want DVR functionality brought to the system.

Workaround to add DVR functionality to OTA tv ?

Since DVR functionality is officially on hold, is there anything I can do to add the feature myself?

 

XBox 1 DVR?

They have put that on "hold" (read cancelled) to focus on gaming features that are getting the most feedback. I'm a little miffed. Here is an article for you:

Completely agree. I'm very disappointed that Microsoft dropped this feature after promising it for so long. I bought their TV tuner to watch hockey and was looking forward to recording Olympics events this summer to watch after work. The fact that Microsoft
announced this feature played a big part in my decision to purchase the tuner; this was misleading to say the least.

Now I'll have to figure out some other system with my PC and all the headaches and troubleshooting that goes along with that.

Microsoft, please resume development of this feature.

 

This is pretty crazy... Very disappointed... First WMC getting killed and now this... At least if they are getting paid off by Comcast and TWC they could at least get them to make some decent apps for the system...

 

Just adding on to the thread to express similar disappointment. The idea that OTA DVR functionality was going to be coming out this year was a big part of my decision to pick the XBOX this X-Mas for our family. I get that features can be announced and they
shouldn't necessarily be relied on till actually released, but at the same time this feels like something I should have figured Microsoft would pull on us. Lesson learned I guess. Hopefully development resumes again at some point.

 

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!! Get it together Microsoft!! I am a cord cutter as well and this is a unique console feature I was really looking forward to. The XBOX is my entertainment center! I have been loyal to the console since launch and through all the
negative press that it was straying from gaming and focusing too much on the TV aspect. How about throwing a bone to those of us who daily use it as both???!!

 

NOTE: I also invested in the additional hardware. Digital tuner, large external HDD, media remote. Yes, stupid me...

I don't game and I got rid of my cable provider. I don't watch much TV, but there are a few programs, like Jeopardy that it was nice to watch.

 

I completely agree. I am very disappointed in this change in strategy. This move could have put them in a place as a leading option for cord cutters. Also it seems like this feature might have worked very well on the new more powerful/more storage updated
xbox one coming out.

 

I am really missing this feature. It's a key reason I opted for an Xbox One last Christmas instead of the other guys console. I've already invested in the hardware to support it (tuner and hard drive) and have anxiously been looking forward to OTA DVR for
the past several months. I've even recommended to others that the OTA DVR would be a cord cutters dream and that they should pick the Xbox One. Please resume development on a much anticipated and needed feature to keep the Xbox One at the center of my entertainment
solution.

 

As U2boy stated, you should visit the Uservoice Forums and voice your opinion. You can upvote the issue and there are also Twitter and Facebook functions to help you get the word out and bring in more support.
