Xbox does not record proper length game clips

    Hello,

Let me start by saying that my question is not how to fix this on the user end, but, rather, when can we expect the issue to be resolved by Microsoft. Will it be resolved with the new Xbox? Could we possibly get an update that would fix this, or is it
    a hardware issue?

Xbox sometimes (way too often) does not record a clip of the desired time length (15s, 30s, 2m, etc). Instead, it records (generally) between 4-7 seconds. This occurs with the proper settings, and it occurs on all different Xbox kits (xb1, xb1s, xb1s).
There is nothing more frustrating than when I do something really cool and cannot capture it.

This is a known issue in the Xbox community. I have spoken to dozens of people who have hit this issue, and there are tons of reddit threads and Microsoft support threads. Probably everyone who has tried to record 10 or more clips must have hit this at
least once. But, it seems to me that Microsoft just wants to ignore this issue instead of giving users an actual answer.

The question of how to fix this has been asked many times, but never with a definitive answer. I know I will be met with the various troubleshooting questions, so I will list all I have tried and my findings. Multiple people I have communicated with have
tried the following, all to no avail. Sometimes the issue goes away, but it always comes back, and it usually doesn't take long.

    1. Have you tried holding the power button down/resetting your box.
    a. Yes. It sometimes works, for a short period of time. It does not resolve the issue permanently. The issue can re-manifest itself at any time. Generally it only takes a few extra recordings until the issue happens again.

    2. Have you tried changing your recording settings, either by adjusting your sdr/hdr/4k settings or by adjusting the length of the recording?
    a. Yes. Over the last few months I have tried every single combination and eventually I hit the issue on all of them.

    3. Is your storage full?
    a. No, my storage isn't even close to full, I have over 200GB of space.

    4. Have you tried using an external hard drive? You may need an external hard drive for captures of higher quality or longer content?
    a. I tried an external, and also had the same issue. Also, why should I need an external drive? Seems Xbox should support this feature recording to their built in drive.
    b. I experience the issue even with low quality 15/30 second clips.

    5. Try selecting the actual length to record, and not just hitting "Record what happened"
    a. Seems a bit more consistent, but still are issues.

    6. Publishers may disable record of certain things, so your clip might be truncated.
    a. I have tested recording the same thing over and over again, and experienced erratic behavior. I believe that disproves this theory as being the issue every time.

    7. If you back out to the home screen, the time on the home screen will not make it into the clip.
    a. I only ever record the clip through the menu that pops up on the side, never do I back out all the way to the home screen.

    8. It is understood that there may be a 1-2 second difference in your selected recording time and the output videos time.
    a. I accept this. I have no issue when I select a 30s recording time, and get a 28 or 29 second video. The issue is when I select a 30s clip, and get a ~14 second video.

I mainly have tested playing Call of Duty Warzone and Halo 5. Any information would be helpful, thank you for your time.

    Xbox game clips

Im trying to record game clips on my xbox and the xbox records the wrong things, eg i should be recording a 15 second long clip but it is showing it as 6 seconds not the full length
    Hi!
You can change the length of the clips to be recorded in the settings.
If you want longer clips I recommend increasing the time to maybe 30 seconds.
I hope to have been of help, if you have other questions ask me as well!

thank you! I love hearing the positive side as well. As for the Game DVR there are settings for pre-set clip lengths. You can set it to be many different variants. Just snap GameDVR and you can find the settings for the Xbox Record That clip length.
