Xbox displays a person isn't in a party, but they are?

I've have an issue where I would go on either my Xbox console, Xbox app or Xbox overlay on my PC and I would see two of my friends is online and in each others party. One has the headphone badge indicating they are in a party but the other one isn't, but as it clearly is, they are in the same party. So if the person that displays the headphone badge appears offline, I would not be able to join their party since the other person does not have the prompt to join their party when they really do. Keep in mind they are joinable parties, not invite-only ones. Does anyone perhaps get this?

Have you made sure that your mic isn't muted on your end? A good way to check this is to see if the circle around your profile pic in the Party menu is showing up when you speak or alternatively you see your Gamertag pop up in the Party Chat overlay (enable
this in Party Menu settings) when you speak.

Ask your friend to open your Xbox GT Profile in console Friends list and see if it is Muted and if so then select Unmute option. Your friend may have a Privacy setting enable that prevents him hearing you, maybe this troubleshooting page "Not hearing the

Hi Karina,

An Xbox Gamertag won't appear in your emails as a signature or display name in any way. I've personally never seen that before, especially if the Xbox account uses a Microsoft account that was created using a third-party email (Gmail, yahoo, work emails).
If you use a Microsoft affiliated email address (outlook, hotmail, msn), then the display name you see when you login to your Microsoft account could be seen in emails. Do you use a third party or Microsoft affiliated email?

Check your Settings - Display & sound - Volume section. Look at Party chat output and make sure it is either set to Speakers or Headset & Speakers. If it is set to Headset only then that's probably why your Elgato isn't getting your party chat audio.

Make sure that your console is connected to a DHCP compliant device. This means not using a PVR or a pass through device. DVDs will not play, and only audio will play while the Xbox 360 logo is displayed on screen.

Make sure that your TV isn't a piece of trash. This means third party/cheap brands.

Make sure that your HDMI cable isn't a piece of trash.
