Xbox displays 1440p option for 1080p monitor

I got a new xbox series s and I was messing with the display settings until I found that it shows me 1440p as an option in display settings in xbox on my 1080@120hz monitor but only in 60hz and not 120hz I don't understand is this native 1440p or downscaling or does my monitor chipset support 1440p?

    :)

    2k display xbox series X

So what options do I have? Only 1080p
    Hi,

A resolution of 1080P is 1920x1080, while 1440P is 2560x1440. Since your display doesn't support 1440P, the highest resolution would be 1080P.

To get 1440P would require a PC gaming monitor that supports that resolution.

LG Ultragear 27GL83A-B 27 Inch Monitor With XBOX Series S

    Hi

Absolutely! But the display should be able to do 120Hz, but only at 1080P as this is a limitation of FreeSync with HDMI for this display.

Make sure you enable VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) in the Xbox display settings as this will remove stuttering and screen tearing.

Just on a technical note, 1440P monitors are not 2K displays. A 2K display is 1080P, 1440P monitors are 2.5K

How to enable 1440p on xbox series x

    Hi,

It's not possible on that display. The big reason why is that it isn't a 1440P display, at least it isn't a 16:9 aspect 1440P display, it's a 21:9 Ultra-wide monitor. Xbox only supports 1440P 16:9 aspect ratio displays. These monitors have a resolution of 2560 x 1440, yours has a resolution of 3440 x 1440.

The Asus ROG PG348Q is designed more for PC gaming not console gaming. Unless Microsoft provide support for these types of monitors in the future I'm afraid you're stuck with a maximum resolution of 1080P.

    Xbox one video/ resolution issue

So the Xbox will not do 144hz. You can increase your refresh rate to 120Hz for 1080p and 1440p resolutions. Your display must support 120Hz
over HDMI. Be careful as a lot of monitors only support higher refresh rates on the Display port and not on HDMI.

My advise would be to set the monitor at 60hz 1080p.

Xbox Series X and LG Class UltraGear 27GL850-B can't get 1440p with 120Hz - "This refresh rate isn't supported with your current resolution"

    Hi,

I have the same monitor. The reason why you can't go to 120Hz at 1440P is because the LG 27GL850 tops out at 100Hz over HDMI at 1440P. This is why you can only do 120Hz at 1080P on this display.

My reasons for owning this monitor a little different to yours, it's main use is for my gaming PC which is connected via Display Port. Only on DP can this monitor reach its full potential.

Unfortunately, this is common issue amongst most monitors and we are getting quite a few questions on here with the same issue. Most Monitors have most of their full features reserved for Display Port.

The picture quality at 1080P is still stunning on this display though.
