Xbox Design Lab Shadow Controllers Just A Skin?

I really want to buy a custom controller from the design lab and I love the Shadow theme, but I bought a Shadow themed controller a couple years back (not from the design lab) and it was just a skin over a black controller. The skin chipped and flaked off
within a year and I'm worried if I got a design lab controller it would be the same thing.

Does anyone know if the design lab Shadow controllers are just a skin? I'm not gonna waste money on it if it's just gonna flake off in less than a year.

The design lab controllers do not use skins. The design is permanent on the unit.

Thanks for the info! I think I might have chosen the wrong word for the skin. It may have been a paint. I'm worried that the controller I have (it is a Microsoft brand Dawn Shadow Controller) was painted. I don't want to get another one and have the same
thing happen. My wife has approved me getting one as long as it's not going to do the same thing. I am a sweaty handed gamer and I wear two rings. Those two things combined to do what happened to my last one. Is there a difference between how the Design Lab
Controllers are made versus how the Dawn Shadow controller was made before?

Confirmed, that the Design Lab controllers are manufactured using hard wearing plastic, finished with paints and no skins at all. Rubberised grips may wear with time.
