Xbox controllers - Careless craftsmanship, or am I just extremely unlucky?

Almost every one of my controllers more recent than Xbox 360 have had noticeable problems within the month I get them. Ever since I've bought my PC, I haven't been able to keep a controller for a whole month without something breaking, and trust me, it's
not the way I treat it.

My Xbox One S controller, after a few years of having it on my Xbox One S, suddenly broke, so I decided to use an older Xbox One controller. I didn't really enjoy using it, because the buttons were difficult to press, which is why I got a new one, so I could
press the buttons lightly without needing to put much force on it. I am really gentle with them, I've never smashed my controllers either.

Which is why me having to go through three controllers within not even 5 months is irritating me so much.

Here's the situation that made me so aggravated that I had to post about it:

My latest controller, I had bought it on amazon for $40. It felt nice to play on; not like a toy like some of the independent-brand controllers felt like. It was all fine, until I accidentally dropped it for the first time. At first, it seemed absolutely
fine, and played fine, but it was gradually getting worse over the next few weeks. Not even a month of use, I noticed the RB button wouldn't press. With my few previous ones, I ran into the same problem, so I knew how bad it would get.

I used to just take it apart and press the bump switch down onto the circuit, and it would temporarily fix the problem, but I quickly realized something: that the bump switch's solder came loose - after a single drop.

I am quite the techy guy, so I could desolder and resolder a new bump switch onto the circuit, because I'm not getting myself a third $40 controller within just a few months. The thing that just irks me is that I shouldn't have to deal with this in the month
that I've had it, after a single accidental drop; I shouldn't have to go through the trouble of resoldering every button that just decides to come loose.

I really am not sure if I am just unlucky or this is poorly built. On some threads I see people have had their controllers for years, slamming it, dropping it multiple times, all without a single problem that they run into. I also see a few with the same
problem as me, which brings me back to my main question-- Is this poorly crafted, or have I just been so unlucky with controllers, that single accidental drops tend to lead to them being broken?

TLDR: I've been through too many controllers in the past few months. I haven't treated them poorly, but somehow they always end up broken over singular accidental drops.

(Sorry for the long post, it was a half rant, half genuine question.)

    :)

I have 2 xbox controllers about 2 years, both have already fallen and there was never any problem, maybe you are unlucky.

Be careful buying them online especially that cheap. Other than that it does seem like your unlucky like me. I need a new controller atleast twice to three times a year which sucks.

Thank you all so much for your constructive replies and thoughts. I've got some good news. It seems that the tactile switch itself isn't broken, so just a simple resolder seems like it would do the trick. This isn't as much hassle as I was lead to believe,
but it will take a few days for me to get the supplies to repair it.

I'm sorry for my rant, with the problems I've had in the past with controllers and dealing with this specific one for a few weeks, my anger kind of built up through the temporary fixes only, you know, being temporary. It was less of a rant on this specific
instance and more on my whole experience with controllers.

Again, thank you all for the thoughts and recommendations. Hopefully, I can get it fixed within the next week.

Maybe your controller just landed in a bad way that caused it to break more easily, what sort of surface did it land on? (lino, tiles, carpet, etc)

Sorry to hear you have some bad experiences with the controllers. I've personally got 4 controllers for my xbox one and an elite controller, had them since reeked and they are still all in mint condition and working well. It may be that you are unlucky,
or they are made a little cheaper than the 360 ones.

As others have mentioned, it may depend on the type of drop and what it fell on. I've dropped mine multiple times but usually only a couple of feet from my couch and onto a rug so the impact isn't as hard as hitting a hard wood floor for example.

Have you managed to get them changed under warranty?
