    Xbox controller remapping itself mid gameplay on PC


    My Xbox controllers are remapping themselves mid gameplay. specifically the A button becomes RB and B becomes LB and clicking in the left stick is also RB. I have them plugged in via USB This is happening on multiple controllers, and multiple games, across both steam and Microsoft platforms, so I doubt it is a hardware issue. What could be causing this?

    EDIT: I have remapped all the buttons and updated the controller from the Microsoft accessories store. Hasn't fixed anything.

    Hello, thanks for the help. I have the Xbox companion app, and my windows 10 and Xbox apps are up to date.

    Also, I have slightly said the wrong thing. The buttons are remapping, but they are layering over each other. For example the A button still does what the A button is supposed to do, but it will also do what the RB is meant to do, if that changes what the issue could be at all.

    Hello twinterror2, this is very weird, have you checked if you have the latest version of Windows installed, at 21H2, because recently came out the latest update to Windows 10 and 11.

    Updates often seen as optional, Microsoft released major fixes this week, and make sure you have the Xbox Companion App installed.

    If you haven't updated yet, click the link below, update and then make all subsequent security updates.

    After that, make sure you have all your Xbox apps up to date in the Microsoft store and have the Companion App installed.

    can I remap my triggers to other buttons?

    Most remapping is done through the game itself or on the elite controller settings.

    Remap Xbox One normal controller’s LT to B using REWASD App (Xbox Accessories incapable)

    this link received from REWASD App support seems to get us there, but now the issue is actually using the remapping.

    Disconnecting remapped controller from PC is the issue, remapping doesn’t actually work when controller is connected to Xbox.
