Xbox Controller registration to microsoft account

I am trying to register an xbox controller to my microsoft account but when I enter the serial number, it says that "it is not found". Please can someone help me to fix this?

Make sure the controller serial number is correct. The serial number is the 14 digit code at the battery pack. It doesn't have any hyphen or dashes. Make sure you're not entering 0 for O or I for 1 etc.

support.xbox.com/.../warranty-and-registration-faq and I cannot find a way to extend a warranty online? I have no device registered by Xbox yet.

The warranty on controllers purchased separately is typically 90 days and if is out of warranty or shows physical damage they won't repair it.

Xbox support should be able to see when this controller was first used on your account and also the warranty activation date. The registration option on the website is for consoles only. If you had actual smoke coming from you controller, you NEED to
contact phone support.
