Xbox controller only functions when connected to power

I want to use an Xbox wireless controller on pc. My PC has Bluetooth 5.3 (MSI B650 Gaming Plus WIFI, Ryzen 5 7500f, RX 7800xt). I have tried two different brand new controllers and had the same problem with both. They don't react to any input if they are not connected via USBC, either to the pc or an external power source. It does not matter how full the battery is.

If I use an external power source I have to hold down the connect button and connect via Bluetooth. If I connect via cable that works as well and I also get access to the full range of functions from the xbox accessories app. I installed the latest firmware on both controllers. Yet nothing I do as long as the controller is unplugged seems to do anything. Since it's the same problem with two new controllers it must be on my side, but I really have no idea what else I could do.

    :)

I had the batteries in wrong lol. They are put in opposite ways even though the layout suggests that they might be put in the same way.

Xbox 360 Wireless controller not working on Windows 10

    Hi,

Sorry, what you're trying to do won't work. The simple answer is that 360 wireless controllers were only designed to work wirelessly. They don't have the functionality to send instructions via a wired connection.

The Play and Charge can only charge the battery - or power the controller if no battery is present.

You'll need a gaming receiver or a wired 360 controller. Only Xbox One controllers can use both wired or wireless connectivity with a PC.

Xbox One Controller successfully connected to PC via bluetooth does not work with Windows apps.

After updating the controller, through the xbox or the computer, it returns to being non-functional as I've described (only working with Steam). When trying to connect to the PC with bluetooth with the update installed, 2 separate inputs appear in the bluetooth "add a device" list. One of them is blank, and the other has "input" beneath it. This happens even after I've completely removed all xbox controller connections, including the wired ones. I can connect to the blank one but with no functionality and I cannot connect at all to the one that says "input".

After reverting, only the connection that has "input" beneath it is listed. This one is the one I connect to with full functionality.

    So to summarize:

With the update - 2 connections are shown. One I can connect to but with no functionality and the other I can't connect to at all

Without the update - Only one connection is shown and I can connect to it with full functionality.

Problème sur la console [Translation-Problem on the console]

    Hi Killian,

If the controller is not connecting either wireless or with a USB cable, then it could be possible the controller is not functioning properly since it should automatically connect with a cable. The only way to figure out if the console or controller is the
issue is to further test other controllers on that same console, or try to connect that same controller to another Xbox.

Usually the hard reset and power cycle resolves this issue but if it didn't for you, then it could be a hardware problem. If the controller does not connect to the Xbox One console using USB then try connecting to a Windows PC and see if it is detected and
can connect. This way you can also check if the controller needs an update.

When you press the sync button on the console, the Xbox light will blink on the console indicating it is searching for a controller. Then press the sync button on the controller and the Xbox light on the controller will start blinking and then become solid
once it's paired to the Xbox.

    Non booting 360

I get the ding when the console powers up as well as a single green light in the center. Can not connect any controller. Also the psu functions normally. Orange when off. Green when on. Changes back when powered down. All i get on my tv is a black screen.
All ofmy cables function as they should because I hooked his console to my vables.
