Xbox controller is plugged in with a USB cord into my PC but it is not detected.

I've been using controller on PC for a while now, for multiple games. All of a sudden it stops working and I haven't found a fix.

The controller plugs in fine and vibrates. It makes that noise that its getting power or whatever. Holding the power button just makes the home button flash, the weird thing is I don't have batteries in the controller, so its getting its power from the PC? This is for the new Xbox controller and the Xbox one controller.

This started happening every since I started playing FIFA.

I've gone into device manager and the PC doesn't even detect the controller anymore. I've tried uninstalling the driver/updating it and no luck.

Is it a hardware problem with my USB ports or is it a bug?

If anyone could help me figure this out, that'd be great!

However, I want to ask. May I know if you tried connecting your controller to another PC, or inserting the batteries and pairing it with a phone or via Bluetooth with another device?

May I know if you have access to an Xbox console?
This, to verify if there is a firmware update available for the device and test if the controller works there or not.

I tried with my brothers computer but it didn't detect my controller. I dont really know what you mean by connecting it to my phone.

I dont have bluetooth on this PC, so the only option is wired unless I purchase an adaptor or whatever.

Yeah controller works fine on the console, I also did an update on the controller and it still doesn't connect to my PC.

I can suggest other possible solutions to try on your PC:

1. Open the task manager and go to the startup tab, once there, click "disable" on each app listed there.
After that, restart the PC and see if the problem is solved

2. Do a clean boot in your Windows PC. For that, please follow this article:

3. Use a different USB cable and try connecting your controller one more time, and connect it to each USB port to see if it’s finally recognized.

4. If you have access to another PC, try connecting the controller there
