Xbox controller headset suddenly not working

    Xbox controller headset suddenly not working


    I been using the official controller and connected headset for a long time now and suddenly its not working. I used it 99% on gamebar but now no programs can hear from it including the OS tester even though its connected and shows up. There were no updates or changes nothing. Here is a list of everything I've done.

    -reset controller

    -update controller

    -uninstall and reinstall drivers

    -uninstall and reinstall gamebar

    -checked app permissions

    -tested mic on another computer, it works just fine

    -tried some apple ear pods, the computer can hear those

    -tried the headset and controller on xbox, still works

    -checked for updates

    -updated absolutely everything hardware and software

    -reimaged entire computer

    -upgraded from windows 10 to 11

    -set it as default device

    -controller itself works fine and audio can be played from the headset speaker

    -controller is connected via USB cable

    -tried another USB cable

    -tied another USB port on the rear IO

    -got a whole new motherboard and cpu (unrelated to issue but happened during troubleshooting)

    -UNBOXED A BRAND NEW HEADSET that i happened to have as a backup

    Nothing has worked and im really annoyed, Microsoft can even maintain support for their own products. I need something i can do, a registry edit, third part software, anything to make this work.

    ***moved from Windows/Windows 11/Devices and drivers***

    Thanks for reaching out! So, the headset used to work before with the controller but suddenly it only worked with chat and nothing else? The new headset did not work with the controller and the other is not updated and they are old controllers, correct? It
    also seems like this is on an Xbox One platform, not a 360 or PC.

    Okay, what type of headset is being used? Afterglow, turtle beach, etc. and is it a chat or stereo headset?

    Check out the following link for troubleshooting regarding Connecting a compatible headset to Xbox One. Also, try to update the other
    controller and see if it works with the headset.

    As outlined in my original post - I've already tried all the things you recommended. I know the headset works (tested with my laptop) and that the controller and spare controller are fine too. Both have been working fine and then suddenly the controller
    and xbox won't recognise the headset? This seems to be a wider issue according to other threads with other gamers too.

    This is an Xbox issue...

    The sound does not cone through headset and no sound goes out. The headset works on other devices though. I fear it is headphone socket but the controller is only 4 weeks old. Any thing I'm missing? I've checked all settings it was working fine last night

    I have bought a new headset and controller, as I stated before, and I have seen no changes at all. The controllers work fine, and I used the headset while calling someone, and the mic worked then. I also tried it on someone else's network (and a much better
    one), and it still didn't work. I think it's a hardware issue, because everything else hasn't worked, so I believe it's localized to my Xbox, which the mic suddenly stopped working after the Cortana update.

    No audio via 3.5mm on Xbox One controller after latest system update.

    I'm having PRECISELY the same problem and am NOT on the insider track. OS version 10.0.17763.3066. Headset suddenly stopped working on BOTH xbox controllers w/. 3.5 jack. Headset is fine - tested on phone and Nintendo Switch - all works. Went and bought
    a BRAND NEW Xbox controller - SAME EXACT PROBLEM. Suddenly started happening after update. Going into "Devices and Accessories" shows "Volume" GRAYED OUT, as if nothing is connected to the controller.

    FWIW, also, the guys at gamestop say they've had tons of people coming in over the past few weeks with this exact same problem. Obviously, something is going on.

    AGAIN, to recap - since the MS reps on here so far have only provided 100% pointless troubleshooting copy-paste junk...here is all of the data, as well as what has ALREADY been tried:

    OS Version: 10.0.17763.3066

    Headset brand: irrelevant - tried 4 headsets including plain old earbuds, regular headphones, a turtle beach headset, and a Lucid Sound headset. Again, ALL OF THESE were working, but stopped at the same time, on the same day. All of these headsets/headphones
    work on other devices.

    Tried 3 different Xbox controllers, including a BRAND NEW ONE.

    Microsoft - for shame. PLEASE provide some actual help. GEEZ LORD!
