Xbox controller eats batteries and randomly disconnects. Any options?

I got a new Xbox one controller a few months ago, and had a lot of trouble getting it connected. At first, I thought it was just me as I'm not super familiar with the console. I can only play sporadically, but every time I picked it up, it behaved similarly.
If it didn't have a brand new pair of batteries, it would either have trouble connecting and when connected, it would randomly disconnect often (every 10-20 mins). With new batteries, it would still disconnect at least once or twice in a session (~1.5 hours.)
The other controller we have works fine, so I don't think it is the console.

I ran through all the suggestions on the help portal and from the support guy I talked to on the phone. The 3 month warranty is up. Do I have any other options with repair or replacement?

EDIT: Thanks for the suggestions, but even with fresh batteries I still have connection issues. I'm looking for suggestions on how to fix the connection issue or to fix/replace the controller.

    :)

I made sure I updated the firmware in the controller, it hasn't fixed the issue. Thanks for the response though.

I had a very similar issue with a phantom white controller a few months ago. I took it in to where i bought it and they replaced it because they said its hardware related and they covered it for a year. If you have the receipt it may be worth a shot.

I think there is a Play & Charge kit that comes with a rechargeable battery and charging cable. Been working great for me.
