Xbox controller connected and recognized but certain inputs are not accepted

This problem developed recently, during play, my games work perfectly fine. However, when I leave the game either to switch games, watch a TV show or to turn off my console, I suddenly cannot select anything in the menu. I am able to navigate the menu just fine, but it's appears input from the A button is not being accepted (every other button works fine). The Xbox makes the "clicking" animation as I press the button so I know it's detecting the input, but then it does nothing. After power cycling my console, it seems to work again, but only for a short time.

If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you a few questions:

- May I ask which Xbox model you are using?

- Is your console enrolled in the Xbox Insider program?

- Do you have any external devices plugged into your console?

- Have you verified if this happens with other controllers? if not, may I ask if you have already made sure your controller's firmware is up to date? you can see this at Settings > Devices & Connections > Controllers & Headsets.

The other problem i have is the issue about the stick drift and the advise given by people on this forum....... the controller was promoted to be played with a certain game that allows full the input from the controller to be accepted, the advise of increasing
your deadzone is rubbish! Oh buy this controller its great oh but by the way you have to set the deadzone to large for it to not drift on the game we are promoting it for........

Great question!

The controller needs to recognize direct input to stay on, leaving the button pressed under a piece of tape, as an example would not qualify as input therefore triggering the battery saving function of the controller.

Hi, if you swap the hdmi connections over on the tv so the xbox 360 uses input 1 and the xbox one uses input 2 do you then get audio from the xbox 360 and not the xbox one ?

Some hdmi inputs only accept the video signal and not the audio which would explain why you only get audio from whichever device is connected to the hdmi port on the tv which accepts both video and audio.
