Connecting xbox controllers to my pc, cause BSOD - everytime via bluetooth and occasionally via usb.

    Windows 11 64 pro

    MSI Tomahawk X570

    Ryzen 5700x3D

    32GB CL14 3600Mhz Ram (4x8)

    RTX 2080

Windows install on a gen 3 sabrent drive

    Game Drive a Lexar gen 4 (4tb)

All windows updates are complete and controller firmware via xbox accessories.

    -------------------------

Apprently the issue is with StartFragment

There’s currently no official hotfix or roadmap update from Microsoft specifically addressing the Xbox controller BSOD issue caused by the XinputHID.sys driver. However, here’s what we know from the latest community discussions:

Bot WC said: The May 2025 update (KB5058411) introduced a new version of XinputHID.sys (v20.26100.3912), which is causing System_Service_Exception BSODs when Xbox controllers connect via Bluetooth 1. Users have confirmed that replacing this driver with an older version from a Windows 24H2 ISO resolves the issue temporarily—but Windows auto-replaces it unless driver updates are blocked

This is part of the 'support' offered. Before the agent seemed to give up and kept telling me to contact my device manufacturer for compatibility!

Microsoft told me to contact the device manufacturer, despite Microsoft BEING the device manufacturer of both the pads and windows..

The pads worked fine for years.

No news of a hotfix from microsoft. People should not have to **** about with files, in what windows is supposed to be plug in -play. Especially with their own first party hardware.

Would the average user have the time/capacity to do a bunch of faffy work-arounds, considering how much they push game pass - you would think they would make sure that you can use the branded device closest to the service offered, Worked properly..

If anyone can link me a XinputHID.sys file i can replace my one with and then turn off windows updates. Until Microsoft pull their finger out their ****, I would be grateful.

    Many Thanks

    EndFragment

    :)

XBOX controller - BSOD when connect

A BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) error caused by the XinputHID.sys driver, which is responsible for the Xbox controller, usually indicates a compatibility issue, a faulty driver, or a conflict with other software. The solution may involve updating, removing, or resetting the driver, as well as other security measures.

    Steps to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Identify the error:

The BSOD usually presents an error code and the name of the driver that caused it. In this case, the XinputHID.sys driver is the culprit.

    2. Update the driver:

Check if there is a newer version of the XinputHID.sys driver available for your operating system. Updating it can fix bugs and improve compatibility.

    3. Rollback or disable the driver:

If updating doesn't fix the problem, try rolling back or disabling the driver. This may help identify whether the problem is directly related to the driver.

    4. Uninstall and reinstall the driver:

After rolling back or disabling, try completely uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling it.

    5. Check system integrity:

Run SFC (System File Checker) to check for corrupt system files.

    6. Check for malware:

Run a virus and malware scanner to make sure the problem is not caused by malicious software

XBox One Wireless Adapter Driver (BSOD)

Sadly, the new driver (12/8) didn't fix the issue for me either. I'm on Windows 10, 32-bit as well, running version 1511.

I'm still getting a BSOD after few minutes and then immediately after the reboot that's been caused by the BSOD, if the controller stays connected.

BSOD like 3 times or more a day

I have just gotten another BSOD and the stop code was FAULTY_HARDWARE_CORRUPTED_PAGE, and then when it rebooted another BSOD appeared with a BSOD SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. I'll try what you suggested above when I test all the ram modules if the hardware is the problem or not.
