xbox companions app keeps crashing shortly after start up.

Exception code: 0xc0000005

Out of all the information provided, I would be focusing on this area. Error 0xc0000005 is an Access Violation error which is usually caused by your computer not being able to correctly process the files and settings required to run a particular program.

It can have many different causes, including faulty RAM problems, errors with the files of your PC and issues with the settings of your PC.

With the exception of a hardware fault, I would suggest for you to check for corrupted Windows system files. System File Checker (SFC) is a utility in Windows that scans for corrupted Windows system files. If it finds a problem, it will try to replace the problematic system files from a cached version that’s on your PC.

To run System File Checker (SFC), follow these steps:

1. In the Windows search box on the taskbar, type command prompt, press and hold (or right-click) Command Prompt, then select Run as administrator > Yes.
   
2. At the command prompt, type sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and the /). Scanning will take a few minutes.
   
3. If SFC finds corrupted files and replaces them, restart your PC and check if the issue persists.

Dr Ravenholm and JamBa JamBaLaya have it figured out. What you want to see when you start up the Dead Rising 3 companion app is text at the top that says something like "Dead Rising 3 Companion app unavailable. Look for notifications in-game for when it's
available." Then, once you start loading a game, you should see something like "Dead Rising Companion App is paused." Once your game loads, everything should work fine.

If you don't see that text shortly after you start the companion app, then it's probably not going to work right. It's frustrating that it has this bug, since it sort of conflicts with the system suspend/resume for Dead Rising 3.

Do the Xbox Beta or the Xbox Console Companion apps crash if you try to use those to join/start parties as well, or is it purely contained to Xbox Game Bar?

If reinstalling Windows didn't work then it's most likely a hardware issue. We can't effectively troubleshoot hardware issues on this forum so I'd advise taking it to a local computer store if possible.

I'm having the same problem. When I open xbox app, it's closed. On Event Viewer there is an event reporting that MOApp Xbox crashed....I' tried to reinstall, but unsucceful...
