Xbox Changed My Ganertag Unwarranted

Apparently someone reported my gamertag as offencive so Microsoft change my gamertag. I appealed it and they said within 24 hours I would be able to reclaim my gamertag.. 24 hrs later and now they say its too long according to the new gamertag guidlines
so thats 10 plus years of Xbox gaming gone. If it cant be fixed back then ill be gone to PlayStation and so will my friends. Any ideas anyone on what i can do?

Your 10+ years of gaming aren't gone, your data is associated with your Microsoft Account, not your gamertag. You can still create a gamertag with more than 12 characters but I believe the only way to do is through an Xbox360.

It becomes available to anyone else, I'm sure of it because if not, then there would be a shortage of gamertags. The best thing to do is pick a new one you like and have a think for a few days. I wouldn't advise changing it just to see though as it'll cost
800MS Points per change which aren't exactly cheap.

You could always make a silver account of your original name should you wish to go back to it... expensive way to do it though.

I'm sure your gamertag stays attached to your account, I suspect you will have to pay to change it back but I'm certain you don't lose it, I will try and find out.
