    My friend purchased a $15 Xbox card for me because my Xbox Live ran out, but I can't use it to purchase Xbox Live. Do I have to use an Xbox Live card/Credit card in order to purchase Xbox Live?

    Yes. Gold can only be purchased via credit card/Paypal or by purchasing a prepaid gold card.
