    Xbox Can't Update


    Here's the deal:

    Xbox is connected to the internet fine. It couldn't connect to Xbox Live. So, I removed my account. Then, I tried to re-add my account, but it spun and spun and then the box just disappeared leaving me at the "add new" screen that I was at before. Next,
    I go to reset console via the settings -> console info page. Now, it's trying to update on reset, but it can't. It's giving me the following message:

    "You need this update to use your console, but something went wrong. For help, visit xbox.com/xboxone/update/help.

    Console ID:

    Error code:0x8B0500B6 0x00000000 0x00000201"

    Options are: "try again", "check network connection" (it's fine), and "turn off xbox" (to which I turn it back on to the same situation).

    Any known solutions to this problem?

    Side note: I also can't connect to the Microsoft forums without my VPN active. Not sure if they are related or not, but I wouldn't be surprised.

    Thank you for replying back. In regards to your Xbox One not updating, have you tried the
    Offline System Update solution? If not, I would recommend trying this as it should assist with resolving the issue for you. You
    will need to make sure though that you have a USB of 4GB or greater before you begin. You will also need to
    Format your USB to NTFS, which I have provided a link for to show you how to do so.

    The Offline system update requires a
    6GB USB, not 4.

    To the OP...

    Are you using WiFi to connect your console to the router or wired ethernet?

    If WiFi.. Try clearing the Alternate MAC address from Settings>Network>Network settings>>.

    You should reset your Router/Internet, but first (if your Xbox is already shutdown) unplug your X1 and then reset Router/Internet, wait 5mins for full Router/Internet reboot and then plug your X1 back in, but don’t turn it on for about 5mins, then try
    turning on and go from there😊👍

    Whatever the problem was, it resolved itself the next day. I'm pretty sure we got IP banned for 24 hours for some reason, but I don't know why. My roommate couldn't get on either, but we could both get on around the same time the next day.
