  1. Xbox cannot save

    Hi

I have a problem with Xbox 1 (1 GB internal, 3 TB external drive)

Console gives error message all the time that cannot save, drive is full and wants files to be transferred to other drive.

Files are already transferred to external drive, which has 2.4 TB free space. Still Xbox sees drives as full and will not do gamesaves etc.

Internal drive has about 200 GB free space. So if console somehow tries to do gamesaves there, it should yet be possible.

    How to solve problem?

    :)

    Hey Timo,

Thank you for reaching out. If you haven't already, I'd like for you to unplug the external drive and perform a

    power cycle
on the Xbox by doing the following:

    1. Turn off the Xbox One console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down completely.
    2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 10 seconds.
Important Be sure to wait 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.
    3. Plug the console power cable back in.
    4. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn on the Xbox One.
Plug the drive back in and test it out. Let us know if this helps! :D

Seems an issue caused by the external drive. Try to format it (mind you the data will be erased so better save it) and repeat the game saving process.

    Hello DysGraceful,

    Greetings!

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Based on the description, you are having issue saving your game saved data in your device due to an error message related to available storage space in your console. Let us check and see on what we can do to help address your concern in a timely manner.

By the way, are you using external hard drive to save your game or just using the storage in your built in hard drive?

To help fix the error you are getting, make sure your Xbox console is up-to-date with the latest software update. To check, follow the steps below:

    1. Make sure that your console is connected to the internet, and then press the Xbox button to open the guide.

    2. Select Profile & system> Settings > System > Updates.

    3. Under Updates, you’ll see:

    • Console update available. Select this to begin your update, or
    • No console update available. This means your console is up to date.

Your data is stored on both your hard drive and in the cloud. Xbox keeps your important data in sync so you don't lose anything when you use a friend or family member's console, or even when you switch to a new console. For Minecraft, worlds are locally saved per device and don't automatically sync between devices. You must have a regular connection to Xbox to keep your data in sync. Playing offline may cause your cloud data to become out of sync. Your data updates each time you connect to Xbox.

Xbox includes smart storage that helps you identify items which may be good choices to remove if your hard drive is getting too full. You can choose to remove the items smart storage suggests or select your own items to remove. Note that removing a game from your console storage doesn’t remove your license (that remains in the cloud, along with your game progress). You won't lose games or game progress by removing them from your console storage.

Several other options can help you to free up space:

    1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
    2. Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Storage.
    3. On the Manage storage devices screen, select:
      • Clear local saved games. This deletes games saved to your hard drive, but they’ll still be saved to the cloud.

To help free up space for your hard drive storage, remove leftover add-ons and shrinkable games. Leftover add-ons are items that remain after you’ve uninstalled a game. To remove leftover add-ons or shrinkable games:

    • Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
    • Select My games & apps > See all > Manage > Free up space.
    • Choose Leftover add-ons or Shrinkable games, highlight an item from the list, press the Menu button, then select Uninstall.

Transfer Original Xbox save files from Xbox 360 into the Xbox One/Series X, is it possible?

Unfortunately original Xbox saves cannot be transferred to the newer systems.
